My baby is 5!!!!!

Friday, April 1st-Brody turned 5!  We started the morning w/ his breakfast request- a tie fighter pancake w/ bacon!
Then, that afternoon it was PARTY TIME!!!
At first, Brody said he wanted to go to Legoland, but changed his mind and wanted an "Ironman" Birthday party instead.  So, we rented a jumpy and invited over all his buddies and the family.
Pinata time!

The Buddies!
It was a fun party!  He had so much fun.  For more pix from the party click HERE.

After the party (like right after), we headed up to Simi for the beginning of our Spring Break Road Trip.  We stayed with Nana and Papa and they had a nice little cake for Brody!

Being 5 is Awesome!  Thanks to everyone who made it special!
Can't believe my baby is 5!

Brody's Disneyland Day

The Almost Birthday Boy!
Yesterday we headed to Disneyland for a much needed visit!  We were not planning on celebrating Brody's Birthday, but what the heck, his birthday is on Friday and so we got the buttons.  I'm so glad we did.  All the cast members kept wishing him 'Happy Birthday' and at first, he was very shy and would hide.  But, by the end of the day, he would enthusiastically, say 'Thank You' and even got a little bugged if someone didn't notice the button.  We spent most of our day at CA Adventure.
Lukey got to ask a question at Turtle Talk with Crush.  He asked how old Crush was?  '124 and still young', was the answer.  Then Crush asked Lukey how old he was.  'I'm 7 & 3/4!', was the answer.  It was so cute!
We ran into 2 families that we know!  The Butlers and GRACIE!!!  Gammy was so excited, so I got this pic.
The crowds weren't that bad!  The longest wait we had was 30 min. for Grizzly Rapids.  We made friends with these nice people from Canada.  Beauty-Eh?!
Brody had to get a picture w/ Mickey and Cali got his autograph-
Ahoy There!
Brody really wanted to ride the carousel, so Cali took him and they rode together!  Aren't they the cutest?
After doing everything we wanted at CA Adventure, we headed over to Disneyland and me and these cuties rode Winnie the Pooh!
We ate dinner at the Boy's favorite restaurant - Geppetto's!
Before heading back to CA Adventure, Brody had to stop and break out his book for his very first autograph from Goofy!  He was so excited!
We ended the night with 'World of Color'.  This was our first time seeing it and it was AMAZING!  It was the perfect ending to a perfect day!

Exhibition Night

Last night was Gavin's first HTMNC Exhibition.  The students display all that they have been working on in their classes for the last few months.  6th graders have been studying Greek and Egyptian History.  Gav's team has been studying Ancient Egypt.  They each had to write an original story and come up with their own Egyptian costume.  In Humanities, they were put in groups and had to design and build a simple machine.  This is Gavin and his group demonstrating how to use the pulley they built.
Raising the obelisk

For science and math, they had to create a restaurant.  They each had to participate as a cook or server in the restaurant.  Their groups had to do food projects.  They went to grocery stores to view prices and nutrition facts.  The groups had to come up with a healthy and affordable dinner and they made posters displaying their results.  The class put together a menu for the restaurant "Cairo Cafe".  The students had to run it just like a real restaurant.  Hostesses took your name and number in your party, there was a clean up crew who cleaned up the tables, and then you were seated.  The server greeted us and served us water.  After we had a chance to look at the menu, Gavin took our order.  He served us when the food was ready, and we paid at the counter when we were finished (w/ fake money that was provided).

Real food!  There was  mexican, mediterranean, and chinese selections.

This is the Garden of the Dead. (that's what Brody & I named it!)
Each student got to mummify chicken livers.  Then they placed them in their own sarcophagus.  Brody wasn't too sure about this place!

It was so cool to see all that these students had come up with!  They really get to use the information that they are taught.  It's so fun to see the students get to think outside the box and enjoy themselves while they are learning!  This is Gavin with his Humanities teacher Ms. Nathan.  She's the coolest!
All of the other grades had stuff going on too.  Each classroom had a different theme.  There was a CSI room, where the entire room had been turned into a Crime Lab.  Brody didn't want to go in, because they had a (pretend) dead body in there!  But there was a cool Toy Room, where 8th Graders designed and built their own toys!  It was amazing!  I didn't have my camera at that point and so didn't get any pix.  But the gum ball dispensing robot was our favorite!  This is Cali in the Storybook land room.  The Students had to create their own "fairy tale" books and illustrate them.  You went from group to group and listened to the stories.  Some of the illustrations were so amazing!  At this stop, they gave us milk and cookies.
And finally, the Dr. Seuss Room (Brody's favorite).  The students wrote their own Seuss-Style books and made fun games or art projects to go with their stories.  One kid actually made an animated movie to go with his.  It was so cool!

It was such a fun night!  There was also an art exhibit in one room, where Gavin had a mask on display.  The line was sooooo long, and I had already seen it, but that was Gammy and Papa's favorite part.  He got to mold the mask to his own face and paint it.  Then, on the inside, he made a collage with pictures that represent the things that he likes.  When he brings it home, I'll get a picture on here!
This was our first exhibition night, and I can't wait to see what they all come up with next year!  This School Rocks!

Cute Boys and one I don't know (Christian's friend)

We made signs and yelled and screamed whenever we saw Sean.
This little one thought the signs were for peek-a-boo!
Gettin' ready for the 400M hurdles
 Ready....Set....

Luke and Cali made their own signs.  Lukey's was the cutest and he spelled Sean-"Shean".

Happy St. Patricks Day!

'Lo and Begorra - What a Fine Day it was!
Lukey had his 'Spring Sing' today, so I loaded up the kids and we headed over to the school.
The 2nd graders sang Disney songs.  Here he is with his flower for "The Tiki Room".

They also sang "Part of Your World" and "Hakuna Matata".  Lukey loves to sing and he is so fun to watch!
After school, we had a little party with the kidlets!  Cali is modeling our craft for the day!

Cookies, leis, and green lemonade!  What a happy day!

Field Trip! Balboa Park w/ HTMNC 6th Graders

Action Shot!
On Tuesday (3/15), I got to accompany Gavin's class to Balboa Park to see some Museums.
We started at the Reuben H Fleet Science Center.
These are his teachers, Ms. Nathan & Miss Littlefield, trying out the hurricane simulator.  They are so great!

Next, it was off to the Mingei Museum.  This place was my favorite!  I loved all the cultural and folk art.
After a yummy lunch in the park, it was off to the Museum of Man.  The kids are all working on Ancient Egypt projects, so that was our first stop in the museum.

Trying out the Egyptian beds and clothing

This was my crew!  Team "Goofy Goober"!  What a great day with such a great group of kids!
